Every Firebox is sold with one of two security suites, because the security services that make a firewall useful come from the suite, not the appliance alone. You choose Basic Security or Total Security when you buy, and the suite renews each term while the appliance stays yours.
What Basic Security includes
Basic Security covers the core protections most offices need: intrusion prevention, gateway antivirus, web and application filtering, and spam blocking, with standard support. It is solid, everyday protection for the office network.
What Total Security adds
Total Security includes everything in Basic, and adds the more advanced layers:
- Sandboxing for unknown malware — suspicious files are detonated in isolation before they reach you.
- AI-based antivirus that catches threats signatures miss.
- DNS-level protection that blocks connections to malicious domains.
- ThreatSync threat detection that correlates activity across your WatchGuard products.
- Gold support.
Which one should you choose?
Choose Basic for solid core protection on a straightforward office network. Choose Total if you handle sensitive data, work in a regulated industry, or simply want the strongest protection WatchGuard offers. Each Firebox product box shows both prices side by side, so you can see the difference for your exact model and term before you decide.
Can you upgrade later?
Yes. You can move from Basic to Total Security when your term renews, so starting with Basic does not lock you in.
